Tudor Festival – Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July 2013, 12 noon - 5pm both days.
Step back in time to 1596 when the lease of Stretton Watermill was taken over by Ursula Leche of nearby Carden Hall. Take a tour with a costumed miller to see the ancient machinery turn wheat into flour. Meet a herbalist with her country cures, a storyteller with curious legends of the mill and musicians playing Tudor tunes on weird and wonderful instruments. The sergeant of the local militia will be keeping the peace, with offenders being placed in the stocks. Admission is free this weekend!
Heritage Open Days – Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September 2013, 1-5pm both days.
Stretton Watermill joins in this national celebration of architectural heritage with free guided tours of the working mill with a special focus on the mill building itself and how it has evolved over the centuries from 1630-1977.
Victorian Harvest Weekend – Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th September 2013, 12 noon -5pm both days.
The final open weekend of the season celebrates the traditional harvest with activities including butter making, apple pressing and straw dolly making. Enjoy live performances of traditional music and a taste of some harvest time foods. All of the activities are free. A small charge is payable for those wishing to have a guided tour of the mill and see wheat being ground into flour.
The Wartime Mill – Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th April 2014, 12 noon - 5pm both days.
During the dark days of the Second World War, small rural mills were pressed into action to produce flour for the war effort. Discover what life was like in the area during the war, see ration book recipes, help ‘Dig for Victory’ and try out a stirrup pump or air raid siren.
